CICS Scholar Wins State Award

Adrian M., of CICS Irving Park, received the "Outstanding Illinois Charter School 8th Grader" award from the Illinois Network of Charter Schools. Adrian, pictured here with his mother and his teacher, says, "If I'm asked if I like my school, I reply 'Of course I do!' My school means a lot to me because they want the best for us."

Adrian was nominated by his teacher, Mr. Thoms, who highlighted Adrian's participation in student government, a recent track team win where Adrian received a medal for a two-mile run, and Adrian's straight-A grades.

In his nominee essay, Adrian writes, "My school is trying to make a safer, better and fun year for us, so we can remember our school and our eighth grade year. They are trying to make this the best last year at CICS Irving Park. We are preparing for all that is going to happen in high school. They want us to be prepared for the future, a great future. The faculty and staff really care about the school and all of the kids who attend CICS Irving Park. They want us to be as safe as possible and make school fun for everyone, but also to be focused on our work at the same time. The point is that the teachers believe that we are very important and make us feel that way too."

Congratulations to Adrian and the staff at CICS Irving Park for this achievement!
