CICS Scholars Participate in Mock Trial Competition

The team of seniors from CICS Northtown Academy after their mock trial competition

Seniors in the CICS Northtown Academy Law class participated in the 2015 Chicago Coalition for Law Related Education (CCLRE) Mock Trial Competition. Students prepared for weeks, assisted by Chicago Bar Association President Dan Cotter, and Mike Gooding, an experienced litigator and in-house attorney for a prestigious insurance company. Students first participated in an in-house competition on the CICS Northtown Academy campus, earning the privilege to represent the school at the citywide competition. The citywide mock trials were then held at the Richard J. Daley Center downtown, presided over by judges of the Cook County Circuit Court.

This year, the Mock Trial Team advanced to the Team Competition Final Round.  Additionally, the team selected Emily S. (Advisory 217) to represent CICS Northtown Acedemy as an individual finalist. She will prepare for the final trial with students from seven other Chicago schools. The finalists’ trial is on April 22nd, after which CICS will learn the outcome of the Team and Individual Finals.

Congratulations to all CICS Northtown Academy Mock Trial team members, and good luck to Emily!
