CICS Bucktown is a premier K-8 charter school in Chicago's Bucktown neighborhood. The school's mission is to inspire and support each child's physical, social, emotional, and academic learning for success at school and beyond using blended learning with technology integrated into classrooms.

CICS Bucktown boasts an energetic learning environment, fueled by over 600 eager learners, many of whom travel great distances to school each day!  Technology is a critical component of our culture of learning; every classroom promotes the use of 21st century learning skills and critical thinking to solve problems.

Based on the Common Core State Standards for reading and math, Next Generation Science Standards, and a robust writing curriculum, learning at CICS Bucktown is rigorous and prepares our students for the best high schools in the city. With consistent growth in reading, math, and science on NWEA MAP testing across grade levels, over 30% of graduating eighth graders have been accepted to Chicago's Selective Enrollment High Schools over the past four years.

In order to educate the "whole child," Bucktown provides its students with social-emotional learning opportunities and activities - including Friday student celebrations, "Bucktown Buddies" program, social justice groups, and morning/midday meetings.

  • The mission at CICS Bucktown is to inspire and support each child’s physical, social, emotional, and academic learning for success at school and beyond using a personalized learning approach.
  • The vision is to close the achievement gap by increasing the number of high achieving charter schools and consequently the opportunities for low-income children to succeed in school, in college, and in life. Bucktown relies on proven strategies and state-of-the-art technology to create rich learning environments for students and teachers, while making effective use of available resources.
  • Named an 'Exceptional' School by the Northwest Evaluation Association

Understanding Outcomes

  • The Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) measures the percent of individual students
meeting and/or exceeding set growth targets based on normative data.
    • NWEA measures of 50-70% of students meeting their individual growth targets are considered above average
    • NWEA measures greater than 70% of students meeting their individual growth target are considered exemplary
  • Growth index measures the amount of points on NWEA’s scale in which a student or group
is above or below typical growth.
