At CICS, we believe kindergarten is more than a starting point—it’s the foundation for everything that follows. Kindergarten is where children begin developing the skills, confidence, and curiosity they’ll carry with them throughout their academic journey. Research shows that what happens in kindergarten doesn’t just impact the next grade, it shapes a child’s long-term success in school, college, and life. That’s why we’re committed to providing a kindergarten experience that nurtures the whole child academically, emotionally, and socially.

This May, CICS was selected to join the Transformative Leadership Adult Learning Network, a three-year national initiative led by TNTP and supported by the Oak Foundation.

This opportunity brings together school systems from across the country to help leaders strengthen their support for students with learning and thinking differences. It places a particular focus on scholars with IEPs, multilingual learners, and those from historically marginalized backgrounds. Through regular coaching, collaboration, and training, our leadership team will work to remove the barriers that too often stand in the way of student success.

At CICS, we believe that every student deserves to be seen, supported, and celebrated from day one. That is why we’re proud to launch the Ellison Excellence Award—a new and unique initiative designed to inspire and reward incoming freshmen at CICS Ralph Ellison Academy. 

Beginning this fall, all 9th grade students at CICS Ralph Ellison—the Class of 2029—will be eligible to earn up to $1,000 in recognition of their academic performance, strong attendance, and positive behavior.
